Jourdann Lubliner - Proactive and Strategic
What are your “and” words and why? Proactive and strategic. I have 9 years of experience in PR, and before starting my PR firm Electrify PR, I spearheaded communications for brands such as Gilt, Men's Health, JCPenney, and Timex. Working in PR, it's important to not only be proactive by developing intriguing story angles and sharing them with media outlets, but also to be strategic. It's crucial to understand a client's mission and objectives before embarking on a PR partnership, so that all PR efforts can align with that company's goals. In my personal life I try to be as proactive as possible as well - especially when it comes to nurturing relationships with my friends and family, pursuing new hobbies, and networking. I also try to be strategic with how I spend my free time (since I don't have a lot of it, running my own business)! For example, I try to take short trips outside of NYC (where I live) when I can, since travel inspires me and gets my creative juices flowing.
What you are known for saying / a quote from you. What does this quote mean to you, (or if it’s from someone else, why does it inspire you)? I love Obama's quote, "We don't look backwards, we look forward." Life has its ups and downs, but I try to be solution-oriented when dealing with tough situations. Life is short, so it's important to learn from one's mistakes and improve for the future rather than dwell on the past.
Which other Ladybadasses inspire you and why? I am inspired by Alix Greenberg of ArtSugar, founder of the cutting-edge, charity and Instagram-driven, affordable contemporary art retailer, and Dani Egna, founder of hand-drawn temporary tattoo brand INKED by Dani. These young female founders are killing it, their brands are game-changers, and they're warm, down-to-earth, and fun people!
When did you first realize that you had some Ladybadassery in you? I played tennis competitively growing up and was co-captain of my high school tennis team. Being proactive and strategic is really important in that sport. Tennis also requires mental toughness as well as physical strength. Regularly playing tennis has taught me skills that I've applied to other areas of my life!
What keeps you motivated on days when you aren't quite feeling like a Ladybadass? I recount all that I've accomplished so far, which makes me proud!
What is your advice to other women who are trying to tap into their Ladybadassery? It can be intimidating to start a company on your own, but doing so can be well worth the risk; becoming your own boss helps you grow professionally and is so rewarding!
